Until I moved down south, I knew nothing of termite infestation.
- I’d never seen a termite and wasn’t concerned about them.
Because of this, I missed the warning signs. I didn’t realize that when I was vacuuming up debris off the window sills, there were termite wings. It wasn’t until a section of my hardwood floor in the living room collapsed that I began looking into it. I googled and realized I had a termite problem. By that time, the damage was extensive. I began by contacting a professional pest control company. They talked to me about tenting and fumigation of the property. The cost was extremely high. Even if they managed to rid the property of termites, the damage would still need to be dealt with. I then reached out to a local contracting company and got an estimate for repairs. The termites had eaten away at the studs in the walls and ceilings, floor joists, front porch, stairway and even portions of the roofing supports. I was shocked by the estimate. There was no way I could afford to get my house back in order. I called a local realtor and explained my issues. She recommended that I get in touch with a cash home buyer. She said that finding a buyer through a conventional listing would be next to impossible. No way would the bank agree to a mortgage to buy my house. I assumed that an offer from a cash home buyer would be super low. Left with no other choice, I submitted the online form. I chose a family-owned cash buyer that is based in Jacksonville. They got back to me right away. The offer was very fair and there were no fees, obligations or contingencies. They agreed to buy the house in its current condition. The termites weren’t a problem.
